Animated Perspective is one of the best classes that I have taken. I really appreciate the class size and also the content that we learned. I mean who doesn't like watching TV as a HW assignment ! So I want to tell you 3 reasons why I really enjoyed this class.
1) The Instructor & The Content: Sam was very open and willing to explain every concept that I didn't understand and brought light to issues that I didn't even notice in the world of animation. She opened my eyes to the lack of diversity in the animation field and how I as a queer Black woman could make a difference in the industry.
The content was easy to digest and Sam also gave us the space and time to discuss each topic thoroughly. Race, body image, gender, etc can be very challenging topics to discuss but I think Sam did an amazing job at presenting this in a way that helped everyone feel comfortable. This personally helped me feel confident in some lessons and also made me not feel bad if I made a mistake in other lessons.
2) The Community: The community was really nice and I really enjoyed my classmates. While I haven't kept up with everyone, I have been in contact with 2 of my peers from the class and I am so glad that I met them. They are amazing artists and have moved on to teaching their own classes and making their own animated shows.
3) The Introspection : After taking Sam's class I felt like I could really transition fully into the animation industry. I left the course with a sense of responsibility to make more inclusive animated shows and also felt empowered to make my animation career a reality.
I enjoyed this class so much and I hope everyone one in the animation industry gets a chance to take it!
